Orange and Fruit Appetizer Platter

Appetizers can be simple and fast to assemble and not need any cooking. A chilled Orange Platter, drizzled with extra virgin olive oil and lightly seasoned with white pepper is a pleasant beginning for any meal. If you wish to make this a sweet and salty dish, arrange some fermented olives in rows between the oranges. Sliced fresh strawberries, kiwis, or any other fruit when in season will add color to this surprisingly simple and delicious appetizer.

Ingredients

1 navel orange
1 teaspoon extra virgin olive oil
1 pinch of white pepper

Fermented olives

Kiwi

Fresh Strawberries

I prefer a navel orange because they are easier to peel than a Florida orange. After peeling, butterfly the sections like you would do when you butterfly shrimp. Arrange open side up around a platter. Lightly drizzle with EVOO and then lightly season with a pinch of white pepper. Add other fruits and olives. Use your imagination. This presents well on a white serving platter, or can also be served as a light dessert or a quick snack.
